Klabin and Municipal Government of Telêmaco Borba celebrate World Environment Day

Leisure and awareness actions will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday (June 3) at the Bolívar Caetano Vaz square in Telêmaco Borba

Paraná, June 1, 2023 – Klabin, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Telêmaco Borba, has planned a series of activities on June 3 to celebrate and raise awareness about World Environment Day.

Ambipar Viraser, a partner in Klabin’s Solid Waste Program, as well as CoopaTB and ReciclaTB, recycling cooperatives at Telêmaco Borba, will also participate in the event, which will begin at 8 a.m., with the distribution of returnable bags for sorting recyclable waste in the Jardim Alegre neighborhood. The initiative uses the selective trash collection model launched in 2019 at Telêmaco Borba and which is currently implemented in 10 neighborhoods.

After that, cultural presentations will begin at 10 a.m. at the Bolívar Caetano Vaz square, featuring Klabin’s Girl Singers, the Capoeira Group, and other song and dance performances by local schools on the core theme of Environment.

Actions in the morning will also include a “Knowledge Trail” (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), during which visitors will learn more about the initiatives and results of the Solid Waste Program, implemented by Klabin in partnership with Ambipar Viraser and seven municipalities of the Caminhos do Tibagi Consortium. The program currently supports around 170 environmental recycling agents and, in the last two years, has helped recycle 5,655 tons of waste, preventing its dispatch to landfills. At the square, visitors will also participate in activities to raise awareness about sorting waste and learn about the negative impacts of incorrect waste disposal on the environment. A mobile structure will be installed to collect glass, encouraging the community’s participation in the action.

“Actions such as this on World Environment Day to support the Waste Program are fundamental for achieving the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda and reinforcing sustainability in the region, with its economic, social and environmental impacts,” said Uilson Paiva, Social Responsibility and Community Relations manager at Klabin.

“Besides raising awareness on the importance of selective collection and, therefore, environmental preservation, people will be able to see the initiatives and results of programs. This initiative will surely bring positive results in sorting recyclable materials, especially among youth, who will pass on this information to their parents and grandparents. Actions like this create more conscientious citizens, especially for our future,” said mayor Dr. Marcio Matos.

Nando Matos, municipal secretary of Urban Planning, Housing and Environment, underscored the importance of the actions. “The municipal government as a whole, but especially our department, always strives to launch actions to preserve the environment and values actions aligned with the event that will take place on June 3. We can only thank and congratulate Klabin and the institutions that are collaborating with the event,” he added.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5. Klabin’s celebrations in 2022 gathered around 300 people and involved five schools in actions targeted at citizenship, local development, environmental education and culture - important pillars for the Company, whose goals are aligned with Klabin’s Sustainable Development Goals (KODS), in turn based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
