Klabin wins two categories in Fastmarkets RISI PPI Awards
Cristiano Teixeira was named, for the second time, CEO of the Year, while the digital transformation of Klabin’s forest areas was recognized in the Digital Innovation category
São Paulo, March 9, 2023 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable paper packaging solutions, won two categories in the PPI Awards sponsored by Fastmarkets RISI, which is the world’s most important recognition in the pulp and paper industry. Klabin CEO Cristiano Teixeira was elected International CEO of the Year, while the company’s actions to drive digital transformation in its forest operations were recognized in the Digital Innovation category.
Since becoming CEO, Cristiano Teixeira has been guiding Klabin’s full and continuous growth, which has focused on sustainability, operating efficiency and technology. The executive is prioritizing the strategic plan based on the company’s integrated, diversified and flexible business model, which has the capacity to adjust to various economic scenarios and reinforces the Company’s long-term vision. “It is an honor once again to be recognized by Fastmarkets RISI for my work at Klabin, a Brazilian company that has been reinventing itself for over 120 years. More than just a forestry company that produces pulp, paper and paper packaging, Klabin offers a wide range of solutions to over 80 countries, including fluff, liquid packaging board (LPB), industrial bags, corrugated board boxes and other types of paper and paper packaging. I share this achievement with Klabin’s over 17,000 direct employees,” commented Cristiano Teixeira at the event.
Klabin also was recognized for implementing digital methodologies in its field operations to make its planted forests more productive and consequently more competitive, while preserving natural resources and protecting the environment. Aware and at the forefront of this ongoing transformation of agribusiness through new technologies, Klabin has adopted five innovative solutions in its processes: Brazil’s first forest machinery simulator; its forest planning tool; monitoring anthills using radar-embedded drones; its forest control tower; and Harbunk, a new forest harvesting machine in Brazil that captures productivity gains and improves operational safety during harvest.
This is not the first time that Klabin has been recognized by the PPI Awards. In 2021, Cristiano Teixeira was named International CEO of the Year and Gabriella Michelucci, Corrugated Board Executive, was named Industry Woman of the Year. In 2020, Klabin was the winner of the Innovation in Packaging category for Eukaliner®, its kraftliner solution made 100% from eucalyptus fiber that is an unprecedented global innovation.
