For its employees, Klabin offers programs that include personal development and volunteer initiatives. The Klabin social actions contribute significantly to the fulfillment of the Klabin 2030 Agenda, called KSDG – Klabin Sustainable Development Goals, aiming at strengthening the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Community Development Forums
The Community Development Forum started in 2015. The initiative takes place in municipalities in new territories where Klabin operates, such as Angatuba (state of São Paulo) and Goiana (state of Pernambuco). The proposition is to involve diverse actors from organized civil society, including Klabin, and advocate for the search for a new territory management model, based on the discussion of solutions for local issues. The initiative has been improved since the beginning of the application of the Social Progress Index (SPI), combining social and environmental indicators that capture three dimensions of social progress: Basic Human Needs, Foundations of Well-Being and Opportunities.

Matas Sociais – Planejando Propriedades Sustentáveis
The Social Forests – Planning Sustainable Farms program helps family farmers from municipalities in Paraná and Santa Catarina to register with the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) as part of the Environmental Recovery Plan (PRA). The program also contributes towards sustainable planning and diversification of property use, thus encouraging family farming, keeping people in the field, developing the production chain and consumption in the region, and entrepreneurship. Matas Sociais is a Klabin initiative, in partnership with the Association for the Preservation of the Environment and Life (Apremavi) and Sebrae, supported by local city halls, farmers, associations and cooperatives. After five years of existence the program has supported over 600 farms. Some of the results obtained during this period were: increase in the income of small growers dedicated to family farming; increased food production; selling to new markets; lower pesticide use, adopting new technologies and production organization. Over 70% of farmers report an increase in income and more than 80% consider the benefits and changes to the farm to be significant in relation to environmental issues. The program has been running since 2015 in the State of Paraná, in the municipalities of Imbaú, Ortigueira and Telêmaco Borba. In 2018, it was expanded to Reserva. In July 2019, to five more municipalities, as result of the good results achieved: Sapopema, Curiúva, São Jerônimo da Serra, Tibagi and Cândido de Abreu. In 2021, it was expanded to Rio Branco do Ivaí and Ventania. In 2020, the Matas Sociais program was extended to Santa Catarina and is now present in the municipalities of Otacílio Costa, Correia Pinto and Lages.

Beekeeping Program
Carried out in partnership with Beekeepers Associations in Telêmaco Borba, Ortigueira and Arapoti, in Paraná, Otacílio Costa in Santa Catarina and in a pilot project in Angatuba, in São Paulo. Through actions such as free professional training and diversification of activities, the Company integrates beekeepers and offers them a space in the company forest areas for small and medium-sized farmers. The project, which has been in existence since 2005, combines efforts on two fundamental fronts, the contribution to local income generation and environmental preservation, as bees, due to their pollinating role, yield multiple benefits to the forest, increasing biodiversity indices. Through the program, the Company encourages and supports the honey production chain and other practices in sync with forestry activities, reinforcing rational and sustainable use. In the past 16 years, 185 tons of honey were produced and sold.

Small Farmer Certification
Farmers in Paraná (since 2014) and Santa Catarina (since 2017), with Klabin’s help, have been granted one of the most renowned forest certifications in the world, the FSC® -Forest Stewardship Council®. The seal recognizes responsible forest management and allows certified farmers to sell wood with greater added value, benefiting the entire production chain. The initiative is also part of the company strategy to acquire certified wood from suppliers. In Paraná, in 2020, 109,000 hectares were certified and in Santa Catarina, 23,000.
Social Progress Index (SPI)
As the result of consolidated work throughout 2020, Klabin launched, in January 2021, the Social Progress Index (SPI) for 37 municipalities in Paraná, among them the 12 municipalities under the greatest influence of the company's industrial and forestry operations. Developed in partnership with Avina Foundation and the Paraná Institute for Economic and Social Development (Ipardes), the SPI is used worldwide to measure advances, compare social progress and direct investments, both in the public and private areas. The index considers Basic Human Needs indicators, Foundations of Well-being and Opportunities and was the methodology used to prepare the baseline diagnosis for the Puma II Project. The SPI and its indicators strengthen municipal strategic planning and public and business policies. It is an important tool for programs to support participatory public administration in municipalities and territories where Klabin operates. Based on the SPI, territory organization can be set up better, as well as the scheduled use of resources, in the short, medium and long term, always in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SPI has also been applied in the municipality of Goiana (state of Pernambuco) and, more recently, in 15 municipalities in Santa Catarina.

Public Administration Support Program
Starting with the Puma Project, Klabin has been supporting the municipalities in its area of direct influence in Paraná to boost their planning capabilities and participatory public administration towards sustainable development. Through a partnership with a consulting firm specializing in administration planning, the company offers support in the preparation and monitoring of the execution of the Multi-Year Plan (PPA) that each city hall must present in the first year of office. The objective is to seek a balance in public accounts, reducing expenses and improving the use of public funds–especially from tax levied on company operations. The actions are monitored periodically through meetings with all government departments and the results are presented to the mayors for decision-making. In 2021, in addition to the seven municipalities in the state of Paraná that were already serviced by the program (Ortigueira, Telêmaco Borba, Imbaú, Sapopema, Curiúva, Reserva and Tibagi), the initiative was extended to eight more municipalities, namely Paranaguá (PR), Rio Negro (PR), Ventania (PR), Lages (SC), Correia Pinto (SC), Otacílio Costa (SC), Angatuba (SP) and Goiana (PE).
