Paraná State Government and Klabin sign agreement for investments of up to R$450 million in infrastructure in Campos Gerais

The infrastructure agreement signed on Wednesday (Dec. 15) is the result of a public-private partnership with presumed ICMS credit. Most of the construction work will be in Campos Gerais.

Paraná, December 15, 2021 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and paper packaging, today (December 15) established one more partnership with Paraná. The company, which is implementing an expansion project in the Campos Gerais region, with the installation of two paper machines (Puma II Project), and state governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior signed an agreement by which the company will invest up to R$450 million in infrastructure works in the cities surrounding its operations.

The agreement reinforces the long-term partnership between Klabin and the state of Paraná. Innovation aligned with regional development as a sustainable commitment resulted in several milestones, such as the construction of the Puma II Project, currently the biggest private investment in the state. Over the last ten years, the Company’s investments in Paraná exceeded R$20 billion.

In exchange for Klabin’s infrastructure investments, the State Government will grant presumed ICMS credit limited to the amount effectively invested.

“This is the largest infrastructure investment in the Campos Gerais region in the last 30 years. Infrastructure is a quick response to the economic development of a city: naturally, new investments flow into the region. Our project is to transform Paraná into a logistics hub for South America and today we are taking another step towards this goal. Klabin’s investments will help develop the region and is a tremendous incentive for new companies”, said governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior.

WORKS SELECTED: The works were selected to drive the development of communities adjacent to Klabin’s operations and reaffirm the Company’s commitment to regional development. Besides benefitting the population, which will enjoy safer traffic, the projects will also improve the logistics and the transport of merchandise of other companies in the region.

Works include the construction of stretches of the third lane on the PR-160 highway between Telêmaco Borba and Imbaú, the renovation of, and construction of the third lane on, the PR-340 highway between Telêmaco Borba and Tibagi, with the construction of two bridges, paving of the right side of the road connecting Harmonia to Klabin’s Puma Unit, construction of stretches of third lanes on the PR-160 highway between Telêmaco Borba and Curiúva, with the construction of a bridge, construction of a beltway in Ventania, and construction of an overpass on the interchange between the PR-340 and PR-160 highways.

“Klabin is honored to contribute, once again, to the development of Paraná, the state that houses its biggest operation and where its main expansion cycles are located. The commitment undertaken shows that our efforts are oriented towards integrated and responsible growth, benefiting the communities surrounding our operations,” said Cristiano Teixeira, CEO of Klabin.
