Klabin defines main partners for implementation of Puma II Project
São Paulo, May 16, 2019 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, recently announced its new expansion cycle. The Puma II Project encompasses the assembly of two packaging paper (kraftliner) machines, with integrated pulp production, which will be installed at the company’s industrial unit in Ortigueira, Paraná. The total paper production capacity of the new machines will be 920,000 tons a year.
Work on the Puma II Project, which will receive investments estimated at R$9.1 billion, will begin in the second quarter this year and installation will be split into two phases, each expected to last 24 months. The first phase involves the construction of a main fiber line to manufacture non-bleached pulp integrated to a kraftliner paper machine, with annual capacity of 450,000 tons. The second entails the construction of a supplementary fiber line integrated to the other kraftliner paper machine, with annual capacity of 470,000 tons.
Klabin has already concluded negotiations with the main partners to implement the first phase of the Project, as follows:
– Wood Yard: Andritz;
– Causticizing and Lime Kiln: Andritz;
– Recovery Boiler and Electric Boiler: Andritz;
– Evaporator Plant: Confab Industrial /Veolia HPD;
– Turbo generator: Siemens;
– Water, Wastewater and Boiler Water Treatment Plants: SUEZ Water Technologies & Solutions Brasil;
– Main Fiber Line: Valmet;
– Paper Machine: Valmet;
– Engineering and management of supplementary plants and interconnections between process islands: Pöyry
“This is the largest investment in Klabin’s history. With the Puma II Project we will significantly increase our packaging paper production capacity and become the third largest supplier of kraftliner in the global market.
