Klabin invests R$ 13.3 million in social projects in 2013

Klabin, whose pillars of action include investment in socioenvironmental initiatives, ended the year of 2013 with a total of R$ 13.3 million invested in social projects. The funds were allocated to all 13 towns where Klabin runs manufacturing plants in Brazil, and consisted of actions in the sectors of culture, social welfare, health, education, sports and environment.

The company invested in over 160 projects. One of these is the Lutherie Project, run by the IFPR (Federal Institute of Parana), the goal of which is to prepare technical professionals in the field of music, by offering courses to make string instruments from wood.

In the area of social welfare, the company signed a partnership with the Marfrig Institute to back the establishment of ten centers for activities promoting volunteer work and concepts of citizenship among children and youngsters (between 6 and 16 years of age). There, students will be able to perform recreational, educational tasks outside classroom hours. In addition to these, the company donated over 25 thousand corrugated boxes and 100 thousand carry bags during the Warm Clothing Campaign in São Paulo.

Where projects with an environmental focus are concerned, Klabin can be found in a number of regions through the Caiubi Project, which disseminates ecological awareness among teachers and students from towns in Santa Catarina and Parana. Another especially noteworthy project is the Guardians of Nature, in which the company, in conjunction with the Environmental Police of Parana and Santa Catarina, promulgates concepts of environmental preservation and citizenship to students in the public school system.

The company is also partner with a number of schools throughout Brazil and maintains social welfare associations, such as the Marquês de Salamanca Institute in Rio de Janeiro, which promote citizenship and education for children among the residents of the Santa Teresa community.

For 2014, Klabin intends to expand its actions to develop the communities where it is operating, placing special emphasis on its major initiatives and keeping an eye open for new investment opportunities.
