Otacilio Costa hosts the 21st edition of the Caiubi Program

Klabin, Brazil’s biggest packaging paper producer and exporter, in conjunction with UDESC (Federal University of Santa Catarina), the Environmental Police and APREMAVI (Association for the Preservation of the Environment and Life), is holding the 21st Edition of the Caiubi Program. The project is intended to help disseminate environmental awareness, by promoting training for teachers from the region. This edition will take place at the Otacilio Costa Plant, during the 23rd and 24th of April and will benefit 55 teachers from the municipalities of Otacilio Costa and Palmeira. The purpose of the project is for these teachers, after training, to become multipliers of this knowledge with the students from the public schools system.

Over the two days, participants will be able to attend lectures and practical activities on environmental awareness, as well receiving guidance on fauna, flora, sustainability and forest management. The Environmental Police will contribute with a lecture and fun activities involving environmental education. There will also be an opportunity to get to know the Legal Woods Program, run by Klabin in partnership with APREMAVI, which advises small and medium-sized farm owners on how to make the most efficient use of their lands, making them profitable while still preserving their ecosystems.

This edition will also include the lecture “O futuro depende de nós” (The future depends on us), to be given by the forestry engineer Vilmar Picinatto–UDESC (University of the State of Santa Catarina). He will talk on how practicing environmental citizenship contributes to the healthy development of the planet.

The Caiubi Program

With the intention of disseminating concepts of ecological awareness among teachers from the communities where it operates, Klabin started the Caiubi Program in Parana, in 2001. In conjunction with the Municipal Secretary of Education of Telemaco Borba and the Regional Nucleus of Education, the project has already brought benefits to almost 160 thousand students and 3 thousand teachers in 500 schools from the region.

In Santa Catarina, the project has been held since 2007 and is promoted in partnership with the Secretaries of Education. Since its introduction, this action has brought benefits to over 830 teachers from 300 schools and 100 thousand students.
