Klabin is accepting applications for new Pitch Days

São Paulo, August 20, 2019 – Klabin, Brazil’s leading producer and exporter of packaging paper and the country’s only company to offer a one-stop solution for hardwood, softwood and fluff pulp, is accepting applications for four new Pitch Days, an initiative that seeks to attract partners for solving various challenges faced by the company.

In this latest round of the open innovation program, the goal is to invite startups and suppliers to develop sustainable solutions and applications for the Research & Development and Sustainability areas.

The R&D area will have three Pitch Days: development of barriers, new applications and uses for cellulose nanocrystalline (CNC), and new products and processes with lignin. In barriers, Klabin wants to develop 100% sustainable solutions that, combined with the company’s papers, result in high-quality, biodegradable and recyclable packaging.  In lignin and cellulose nanocrystalline, the program wants to attract suppliers and startups that work with these products, seeking to expand their potential uses and applications in the hopes of tapping new markets.

The Sustainability Pitch Day will focus on waste reuse, more specifically tertiary sludge, which is generated by wastewater treatment at Klabin’s Puma Unit, located in Ortigueira, Paraná. The waste currently is disposed of in landfills, in compliance with disposal standards. The company seeks innovative and sustainable solutions that enable the treatment and reuse of the waste products in a sustainable manner, thereby promoting the circular economy.

“The Pitch Days have proven to be an important tool for innovation at Klabin. The program lets you connect directly with partners, which gives us access to new alternatives that help us resolve important challenges aligned with the Company’s development,” said Renata Freesz, Innovation manager. “Klabin has been investing heavily in research and development to always offer sustainable solutions to its clients and consumers. Now it is seeking new partners interested in working together to build a sustainable future,” she added.
