Paraná, April 16, 2019 – The first technical school for forest operations in Brazil will be based in Ortigueira (PR) and is due to be inaugurated next year. The creation of the State Center for Professional Forestry and Agricultural Education of Ortigueira takes place through a partnership between Klabin, the government of the State of Paraná and the Ortigueira City Hall. The school, with a capacity of 800 students, will initially offer three courses: Forestry Operations Technician, Heavy Machinery Maintenance Technician and Agribusiness Technician, which will be offered in Integral (concomitant with high school) and subsequent (when the student already have high school and only do technical training). About 300 places will be offered in a boarding school and semi-boarding school, allowing the entry of students from different regions of the country.

 

In addition to collaborating with all its pioneering activity and know-how for the creation of the courses, Klabin signed the deed of use of the buildings for the Ortigueira City Hall, which were used as accommodation for workers of the Puma Project at the time of the factory. The structure has rooms, bathrooms, classrooms, industrial kitchen, dining room, soccer field and leisure area. The company is also offering the equipment that will be used in the courses (simulators, Skidders, processors and Feller Bunchers) and a specialized library. The total contribution of Klabin is valued at approximately R $ 23 million, adding up the investment applied at the time of construction, the technical laboratories that will be implemented by the company, the engineering executive projects for the adaptation of the buildings, the library and the equipment. The Secretariat of Education of the State of Paraná will carry out the necessary adaptation works for accessibility and will build a mechanic’s workshop and a covered sports court. The state’s investment will be in the order of R $ 12 million. In order to develop the project, representatives from Klabin, State Secretariat of Education of Paraná, Telemaco Borba Regional Education Center and Ortigueira City Hall visited 2017 schools in Finland and Sweden in the region of Scandinavia, a world reference in the pulp and paper industry.
