Klabin began work on the first phase of the Puma II Project with the placement of the first stake of the Paper Machine 27 building on July 3. Another important moment was the start of earthmoving work in the area of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETE). These are the first actions to be carried out as part of expansion work at the Puma Unit, the company’s pulp mill located in Ortigueira. Cristiano Teixeira, managing director, was present.

“Placing the first stake within the established timeframe is an important milestone for the start of this major challenge, which is the biggest investment in Klabin’s history,” said Francisco Razzolini, Executive Officer of Industrial Technology, Innovation, Sustainability and the Pulp Business. “And starting works at the ETE on the same day also symbolizes our commitment to using the most advanced technologies for sustainability.” 

MP 27, which is expected to go operational in 2021, will have the capacity to produce annually 450 thousand tons of 100% kraftliner paper from eucalyptus fiber (Eukaliner), a product that Klabin exports and transforms into its own corrugated packaging. With the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETE), the Puma Unit will have three dedicated lines, which will offer tertiary treatment of the Wastewater generated by the mill.

About the Puma Project

The Puma II Project will be divided into two stages. The first involves the construction of a fiber line to produce non-bleached pulp integrated to a kraftliner and white kraftliner paper machine, which will be sold under the Eukaliner brand, with annual capacity of 450 thousand tons.

The second stage entails the construction of a supplementary fiber line integrated to a kraftliner paper machine with annual capacity of 470 thousand tons, and the expansion of a few support structures.

Jobs

At the height of the works, about 11 thousand jobs will be created. The company aims to equal, or even better, the utilization of local manpower achieved during the Puma I Project.
