Klabin holds 34th edition of Caiubi Environmental Education Program
Held in partnership with the Departments of Education of several cities, the meeting discussed the theme of “Soils and Diversity” with over 140 teachers of municipal schools
Santa Catarina, May 27, 2021 – Committed to fostering environmental education in the regions where it operates, Klabin held the 34th edition of the Caiubi Program last week. The initiative, the result of a partnership between the Company and the Departments of Education of towns across Santa Catarina, aims to raise awareness and train teachers and academic professionals to become multipliers of ecological awareness in their communities.
The program, which has already completed two decades, has adapted its format to the remote model, maintaining its training sessions active and safe during the pandemic period. Klabin invited three experts to talk about the topic “Soils and Diversity”: Dr. Letícia Sequinatto, Agronomist, Professor and Researcher at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), Dr. Osmar Klauberg Filho, Agronomist, Professor and Researcher at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), and Max Farjallat Raffi, co-founder of SUMATRA Environmental Intelligence, veterinarian and Master in Animal Science from the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC).
The event was held for around 140 teachers from Otacílio Costa, Lages, Petrolândia and Monte Carlo.
Participants include Iolita Constante da Silva, a teacher at the Marechal Rondon Municipal Primary School in Otacílio Costa, who was surprised with the content offered by Caiubi Program. “I never imagined that I would receive so much information and work materials that meet the needs of my classroom practice. I help students with learning difficulties and with disabilities (PwD) by adapting content to their needs. The lectures were very clear and objective, replete with images, which helps make classes more attractive and dynamic in an interdisciplinary form, that is, a single topic involving different disciplines in the school curriculum, involving outdoor experiences, use of materials easily found in daily routine at no cost,” she said.
Janete Teresinha Camargo, a teacher at the Professor Pedro Cândido Municipal Primary School and Izidoro Marin Municipal School, both in Lages, has already participated in three editions of the Caiubi Program and states that it is very beneficial. “The meetings are always very well organized and the discussion was very well conducted by the experts invited. The program helps to deepen our knowledge, and participating in these discussions is enriching; it adds a lot to our classes,” she says.
“Klabin believes that education is the basis for social transformation. Through the Caiubi Program, we have helped stimulate environmental education at schools, forming more critical citizens who are aware of their social role in the environment. We are proud of the initiative’s legacy of knowledge and highly satisfied about conducting it virtually during this period, ensuring that teachers continue to have this support in a safe manner,” says Júlio Nogueira, Sustainability and Environmental manager at Klabin.
