Klabin and Environmental Police commemorate the graduation of the 4th class of Environmental Protectors in Otacílio Costa

Santa Catarina, November XX, 2019 – Klabin, jointly with the Santa Catarina State Environmental Military Police, held in November the graduation ceremony for the 4th class of the Environmental Protectors Program, in Otacílio Costa. One of the project’s goals is to transform students into advocates of the environmental preservation concepts, while supporting the community and acting as ecological vigilantes.

The graduation ceremony, which was held at the Otacílio Costa Environmental Center, was open to the community and attended by the parents of the 31 participating students, as well as the soldier of the Environmental Military Police, Katiane Wiggers, who administered classes throughout the year. During the event, Klabin was honored for being the only private institution that sponsored the Program.

“Klabin believes in creating shared value, striving to help build a better future. We are very proud to support the Environmental Protectors and also to carry out other projects in the region that are well consolidated and well-known by the community, such as the Legal Forests, Growing Up Reading and Caiubi programs,” said Edson Maestri, Klabin’s Industrial Manager at the Otacílio Costa Unit.

Environmental Protectors Program

The Environmental Protectors Program is an initiative of higher-than-expected Environmental Military Police in partnership with the municipal and state education departments and Klabin, which has been a partner since 2005. The main goal is to educate students from public and private schools from aged 11 to 14 on environmental preservation, air, water and soil pollution, and recycling. At the end of the program, students participate in a camping trip to stimulate their senses, foster team spirit and develop leaders, as well as undergo training in first aid and fire suppression. Since its creation, more than 600 students from the mountainous region of Santa Catarina have benefitted from the program.
