Paraná, July 27, 2020 – To carry out the Maintenance Shutdown with reduced scope at the Monte Alegre Unit, Klabin has expanded its preventive protocols and its measures to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus with new actions, especially for those employees traveling to the city. The goal is to ensure active and constant monitoring of the health of the professionals contracted, physical distancing while carrying out the Reduced Maintenance Shutdown and avoiding groups of people to ensure the safety of all employees and local communities.

The professionals will be quarantined in their cities of origin before traveling to Telêmaco Borba, Paraná.  They will be isolated for seven days and 24 hours before boarding they will take a rapid covid-19 test. Upon arrival, a new rapid test will be done and, if there is any change in the result or in the clinical exam to be performed by the medical team, the professionals will be sent to isolation in an independent structure and take another covid-19 test, the PCR test.

Klabin also will house virtually all professionals in a single building, which will ensure their physical isolation during the Reduced Maintenance Shutdown.  The place is located in the city and will have a reserved entrance and exit that are monitored and with access control, with body temperature measurement of everyone who circulates around the site, in addition to three outpatient clinics for the medical teams who will stay focused on monitoring the health of the group in their own accommodation for 24 hours. The accommodation also will have an exclusive food delivery service to avoid leaving and movements of the group of professionals in the city.  In addition, some employees, or around 10% of the team, will stay in hotels and be supervised by Klabin, as well as follow all established health and safety protocols.

While still in their city  of origin, the team will under a clinical evaluation of symptoms and be required to report their own health status every day in the Klabin Saúde app, from when they board their flight to Telêmaco Borba until the operation at the unit is completed. The integration meeting also will be held in the city where the professionals live and, for contractors living in Telêmaco Borba and neighboring regions, the meeting will be online to avoid travel and agglomerations of people.

Automatic temperature measurement ensures safe distancing

To improve the agility and accuracy of the clinical analysis of professionals during the Reduced Maintenance Shutdown, in early July, the Monte Alegre Unit received a technological upgrade for measuring temperatures at all of the plant’s gates. The new system has sensors that measure temperatures automatically, quickly and reliably, which prevents the formation of lines and any involuntary proximity of professionals.

People stand in front of a totem that measures and sounds an alert if there is any change in temperature, thereby activating the medical team. This automatic temperate measurement also helps to centralize information. The system is integrated with the Klabin network, which enables the company to monitor and have an overview of the health conditions of the team that enters the plant every day and every shift.

Another advantage offered by this technology is the detection of mask use, which is mandatory at all times, which will help ensure that team members correctly use the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

New meals system further reduces proximity

Since March, Klabin has rolled out an individual meal service that is delivered in lunchboxes and features an unique menu that requires very little handling of the food. For the Reduced Maintenance Shutdown, the system will be even more rigorous and comprehensive to ensure safe and organized physical distancing protocols.

The work crews will be divided into groups and have a specific location for eating staggered over around eight different cycles and timetables, significantly reducing the number of people in the same space at a time and the movement and circulation of people. The places defined by Klabin have better ventilation and tables distant from each other, avoiding proximity and contact during meals.

Klabin will maintain daily reports with the Health Surveillance Agency, the Municipal Health Departments and COMCOVID and, during this period, will continue to disseminate planned guidelines continuously and intensively for all employees, while also reinforcing each person’s individual responsibility in following the protocols to help society, colleagues and the Company in the fight against coronavirus
