Initiative promotes safe driving and reinforces the importance of preventing accidents among the 0over 5,000 truckers that transport the Company’s products

Committed to the social and economic development of its value chain, Klabin, Brazil’s largest packaging paper producer and exporter, announces the Sustainable KM Awards Program, which aims to reinforce accident prevention measures and promote road safety among the more than 5,000 outsourced truckers who transport the Company’s products. The initiative is a first in the packaging, pulp and paper industry.

“To Klabin, safety is a basic principle of our activities, and promoting this value to ensure its adopted on the roads of our country is part of our social commitment. Freight transportation is an essential service, and Sustainable KM was designed to foster best practices among drivers, while also valuing them for the services they provide,” explained Sandro Ávila, director of Operational Planning, Logistics and Procurement at Klabin.

Created by the Klabin’s logistics department, Sustainable KM will be divided into two steps, one semiannual and another yearly. At the end of the first analysis period, an award will be given to all drivers who meet the following criteria: minimum 85% tracking compliance, speed management, which will be measured with support from a specialized company that is a partner in the initiative, and not having caused any accidents.

The annual step will be more competitive. Drivers with the best performance in their regions will undergo a practice evaluation on a truck to win first, second and third place, with each receiving a special prize. The number of kilometers traveled over the entire program period will be the tiebreaker.

The awards ceremony for the program’s first stage is scheduled for July this year. Truck drivers who provided services to Klabin in the Northeast, Southeast, Santa Catarina and Paraná regions are participating in the Sustainable KM.
