Klabin included in BM&FBovespa’s Sustainability Index for the fourth consecutive year

São Paulo, November 25, 2016 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter and the leading manufacturer of corrugated board packaging and industrial bags, was selected as a component of the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BM&FBovespa) for the fourth straight year. The objective of the ISE is to create an investment environment that is compatible with the demands of sustainable development and to encourage ethical responsibility through the good business practices of companies eligible for the index.

Klabin has a strong presence in all areas on which the ISE selection criteria are based. By creating annual plans that aim to achieve significant progress in the period, the Company is continuously improving its performance in the assessed dimensions, i.e. corporate sustainability, environmental and social-environmental balance, climate change, economic efficiency and governance, among others.

The index’s new portfolio is valid from January 2, 2017 to January 5, 2018. Starting this year, component companies will also publicly disclose their answers to the ISE questionnaire. This new requirement will help increase the transparency of the process before investors and society in general.

The selection of companies to compose the index is based on criteria developed by the School of Economics and Business Administration (EAESP) of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). In order to be included in the index, companies have to stand out in good sustainability practices, which is verified through their answers to questionnaires and the assessment of documental evidence supporting the quality of their management and control of each topic.
