Paraná, May 24, 2019 – At a morning meeting held by Klabin, the State Secretariat for Infrastructure and Logistics and the Highway Department (DER) of the State of Paraná last Thursday (23th), the company announced that it will repair a stretch of PR-340 Highway, between Telêmaco Borba and Tibagi. The partnership fulfils a wish of the population for fully opening the traffic in the location, which remains prohibited for vehicles weighing more than four tons.

 

Part of Highway PR-340 collapsed on Km 291 on March 16, and it was totally blocked for 10 days. After the second assessment, on March 26, the traffic was open for vehicles weighing up to four tons. Therefore, only small cars can go through the location, and the distance for transporting goods between the two cities increased nearly 100 kilometers.

 

While DER works in the project and for obtaining the social and environmental licenses, Klabin will hire a company to carry out the works, which will be inspected by the state body. In the location, works for restoration of the landfill and drainage, road repavement and installation of road signs will be carried out, for subsequent opening of the traffic.

 

It is expected that after getting the licenses for starting the works, traffic will be open in 60 days. “This partnership with the State allows for works to be completed faster and benefits the population of surrounding cities, which use the highway on a daily basis, besides reducing the impact on the logistics and transportation of products in the whole region of Campos Gerais”, highlights Klabin’s Forest Manager, Darlon Orlamunder de Souza.

The stretch of PR-340 Highway, where the sliding occurred, is of the utmost importance for the infrastructure of the region, which is affected by the restriction on heavy vehicle traffic. This partnership of the State with Klabin will make the work more agile, thus benefitting the residents and drivers who use PR-340 Highway”, highlights the Infrastructure and Logistics Secretary of the State of Paraná, Sandro Alex.
