Klabin participates in Marejada festival in Santa Catarina

Santa Catarina, October 23, 2019 – Klabin participated in the “Marejada” festival held in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, between October 8 and 20. The company donated 52,000 paper plates and 45,000 wooden cutlery, as well as trashcans made of corrugated board, to make the event more sustainable, valuing the sustainable qualities of paper and contributing to a more conscientious consumption of packaging.

One of the event attractions was the 1st Kids Sustainability Forum, which received municipal schools in the region on October 14 and 16 and benefited approximately 1,000 children from 2nd to 5th grades. The Forum featured lectures and plays that engaged students in the issue of environmental education.

According to Evandro Neiva, Tourism & Event Secretary of Itajaí, this year’s Marejada festival reaffirmed its reputation as an excellent option for families. “Over 13 days, everyone was treated to entertainment and leisure in the same space, taking the message of sustainability home and rethinking the way we treat the environment,” he added. The 33rd edition of Marejada set an all-time record of over 230,000 visitors.

Klabin has been operating in the city of Itajaí for 19 years, producing corrugated board packaging. The company earned the city’s 2017 Social Seal and the “Destaque” award, given by the municipal government, for its projects dedicated to recycling industrial waste and implementing reverse logistics for the waste produced by its mill. Another program that was recognized was “Sponge Recycling,” in which sponges collected at the Ecoponto recycling stations installed by Klabin in partnership with the Universidade do Vale do Itajaí are sent for recycling.
