Klabin participates in congress to discuss the future of Natural Heritage Private Reserves

Paraná, August 22, 2018 – The Congress brought together around 300 participants, including owners and managers of reserves, public administrators, NGOs, companies and others. The main objective of the event was to discuss the importance of the private sector in preserving biodiversity and the future of RPPNs in Brazil.

Klabin maintains the Serra da Farofa Complex RPPN, officially designated as a conservation unit in 2014, which covers the cities of Painel, Rio Rufino, Bocaina do Sul, Urupema and Urubici, being the first conservation unit in the RPPN category established by Klabin in the state of Santa Catarina. It is one of the largest in this category in Santa Catarina, conserving approximately five thousand hectares of preserved native forest remnants, intended exclusively for environmental protection and scientific research.

Concept

Natural Heritage Private Reserves (RPPN) are private areas intended to preserve regions of ecological or landscaping importance. These are created at the initiative of owners, who request the environmental agency to recognize their properties, partially or fully, as a Natural Heritage Private Reserve (RPPN) and register it perpetually at the notary public, at the margin of the property deed.
