Projeto Puma II

Klabin launches book and podcast series about Puma II, the largest private investment in the history of Paraná

Construction of project also marks the main growth cycle in company’s history

Paraná, November 22, 2023 – The inauguration of the Puma II Project, the largest investment in Klabin’s history and the largest private investment in the state of Paraná, has its trajectory narrated in the book Novos Caminhos do Puma and the podcast Caminhos do Puma, which detail the construction of the world’s most modern and sustainable paper and pulp mills.

Authored by journalists Marcio Santos, Mauren Rigo and Uilson Paiva, and published by Editora Fábrica de Comunicação, the book narrates the planning behind the forest restructuring process, the start of construction in 2019, the ongoing relations with local community and the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The book, available in Portuguese, English and Spanish, can also be downloaded from the company website. “It is the result of nine months of text production and editing, around 50 new interviews in addition to the hundreds conducted during the four years of construction, and more than 300 photos. All this to create an enduring record of this initiative, which is a milestone in the Company’s history”, said Priscila Basile, coordinator of Communication and Community Relations.

The wealth of information gathered from the interviews also helped produce Caminhos do Puma, a podcast of 12 episodes, available on Klabin’s official channel on Spotify and its website. It narrates the entire trajectory of the Unit, describing how the Puma I and Puma II projects transformed the economic, social and environmental development of the region where the mill was built, as well as the technological initiatives and management of employees involved until its inauguration in September. “The podcast offers a standalone experience, regardless of whether one reads the book. It explores in detail the environmental issues, technological innovations and social aspects. In short, we cover everything related to a massive project designed to reinforce the company’s integrated, diversified and flexible business model,” said Basile. For João Gomes Braga, Projects and Engineering director at Klabin, both the book and the podcast are valuable sources that capture the significance and magnitude of the Puma II Project. “We are immensely proud to have completed this project, an accomplishment that was only possible thanks to the talent, dedication and commitment of more than 32,000 employees in Brazil and around the world.

The book and podcast are solid testimonials to the efforts made by Klabin and its employees to make this dream come true”, he completed. Inaugurated in September this year, the Project is the result of investments totaling R$12.9 billion for the installation of two new paper machines (MP27 and MP28), both in operation, and with total production capacity of 910,000 tons of paper per year. “Puma II represents a significant advance for the pulp and paper industry, which seeks increasingly sustainable, circular and efficient processes”, highlighted  Francisco Razzolini, Industrial Technology, Innovation, Sustainability and Projects director at Klabin.
