Klabin Caiubi Program conducts teacher training program at SEMEDI in Paranaguá

Klabin initiative helps promote environmental topics and sustainability concepts in the municipalities where it operates

Paraná, May 22, 2023 – On May 12, Klabin conducted teacher training through the Klabin Caiubi Program at the Municipal Education and Integral Learning Department (SEMEDI) located in Paranaguá, Paraná. The event was attended by 14 teachers from 14 schools in Paranaguá, directly benefiting 121 students in the municipality.

Klabin Caiubi Program, an initiative launched by Klabin in partnership with the education departments of participating municipalities, aims to disseminate environmental issues in order to enrich the academic curriculum. Training teachers from different disciplines is one of the program’s pillars and is aimed at developing theoretical and practical educational activities to raise awareness on the importance of environmental conservation and good environmental practices.

During the training process, teachers participated in lectures by Klabin’s Sustainability and Environment team. Gustavo Góes, environmental manager at the Rio Tibagi Consortium, shared his theoretical knowledge on the theme “Protecting forests is conserving water”, explaining the importance of protecting and managing forests and their impact on water conservation.  A practical training session was also held at the State Palmito Park, a state Atlantic Forest conservation unit located within Paranaguá’s municipal limits.

According to Joice Cristina Pereira, head of the Field Education Department at SEMEDI, participating in a project such as the Klabin Caiubi Program, whose purpose is environmental education and biodiversity conservation, is extremely important, mainly for Field Education teachers, “who have this direct contact with nature every day and teach students how to preserve the environment where they live”. For Michelly Zela Antonio, teacher at the José Chemure Municipal Rural School, the training program also helps integrate the curriculum and real life using suggested activities with learning practices of active methodologies, guiding students in their participation and interaction as they learn, making the process more pleasant.

“Klabin believes that investing in environmental education is one way of contributing to the economic and sustainable development of the region where it operates. The initiative also strengthens the Company’s relations with local communities and awareness on the importance of conserving biodiversity where we operate," said Uilson Paiva, Social Responsibility and Community Relations manager at Klabin.
