Paraná, November 6, 2024 – On October 31, Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, hosted the live event “Beyond the Classroom: The challenges of school coexistence," broadcast on the company's channel on YouTube. The event, part of the Klabin Transforms by Sowing Education program, brought together specialists to raise awareness among teachers and school administrators about the opportunities that good coexistence provides for the entire school community.

The topic of school coexistence was chosen for the live session with the aim of strengthening human relationships within the educational environment, promoting respect, cooperation, and active participation among students, teachers, administrators, and families. "Since 2017, with the start of the program, we have seen a significant evolution in the quality of education in the regions where it is present. It was designed to meet local needs, considering the realities of each community and aiming to enhance the school environment to make it more welcoming and conducive to learning," says Uilson Paiva, Social Responsibility and Community Relations manager at Klabin.

Gustavo Fernandes, instructor at Interação Urbana, the consulting firm responsible for the program's training sessions, explained the characteristics of the schools participating in the program and presented two case studies of educational institutions that benefited from the Sowing Education program, which developed coexistence projects and experienced improvements in the relationships among all members of the school community, as well as enhancements in the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) scores.

Professora Ermínia Araújo Municipal School, in Angatuba, São Paulo, presented the project “Listening to Students for Improving the Educational Environment,” a work of active listening to all the school stakeholders, thereby managing to engage more parents, students, teachers, and administrators. In 2021, the school's IDEB was 6.2, increasing to 6.5 in 2023. While the Olavo Bilac Municipal School, in Rio Negro, Paraná, discussed "Strengthening the Team through Listening to Teachers" and also saw an increase in the IDEB scores, from 5.9 in 2021 to 6.0 in 2023.

Claudio Thebas, an authority on listening methodologies as a transformative element in the school environment, discussed "The role of listening to improve school coexistence".  Thebas, a clown, author of bestsellers and projects recognized for their social impact, emphasized the importance of active listening as a fundamental tool to resolve conflicts and strengthen interpersonal relationships in schools, creating environments of human connection.

The writer and storyteller Kiara Terra, who has been working for over 20 years in the training of educators, shared her experiences with the collaborative storytelling method The Open Story, a technique that involves the public in the construction of narratives and encourages participation, listening, and critical thinking. According to Terra, this pedagogical approach engages students, promotes a sense of belonging, and strengthens the bond with the school, transforming it into a more inclusive and welcoming environment.
