The award ceremony was held last Saturday, August 31, in Florianópolis.

Santa Catarina, September 2, 2024 – Klabin, Brazil's largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, was recognized for the project “The positive visibility of ecosystem services and the benefits provided by the environment to the planet” during the 30th edition of the Expressão de Ecologia Awards, in the Water Conservation category. The ceremony took place last Saturday (31), in Florianópolis (SC).

Mireli Moura Pitz Floriani, the company's Environmental Responsibility coordinator, represented the company at the award ceremony. "The project presented by Klabin demonstrated the conservation potential of Fazenda das Nascentes, in the Serra da Farofa Complex Natural Heritage Private Reserve (RPPN), and highlighted the magnitude of the environmental services provided in Santa Catarina State by the company," she said.

To highlight the importance of protected native vegetation areas, in 2021, Klabin was the first company in Brazil to obtain simultaneous recognition for positive impacts on three Ecosystem Services: Biodiversity Conservation (ES1), Carbon Sequestration and Storage (ES2), and Watershed Services (ES3), which aim to encourage the conservation of native forests by organizations that hold the certificate for forest management.

The recognition during the award ceremony confirms the Company's dedication to environmental responsibility initiatives, since the Award aims to publicize and disseminate the main sustainability actions and encourage the replication of these projects. The Expressão de Ecologia Award was created in 1993 by Editora Expressão. The 30th edition featured the participation of 121 environmental projects registered, originating from the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. In thirty years of existence, there have been 3,390 cases submitted from the main companies, NGOs, municipalities, and entities in the South of Brazil, and in the last two years, from São Paulo as well. This is the 20th time that Klabin has won this award, being the private company that has won the most Expressão de Ecologia Awards to date.
