Klabin and the Municipal Government of Telêmaco Borba collect over 1.5 tons of recyclable materials during Expo Telêmaco 2024
The materials collected during the seven-day exhibition will be exchanged for food to be donated to charitable associations through the Feira do Bem
Paraná, March 22, 2024 – Over 1.5 tons of recyclable materials were collected during the seven days of Expo Telêmaco 2024. The initiative, carried out by Klabin in partnership with the Municipal Government of Telêmaco Borba and Ambipar Environment, will be concluded in the coming days with the delivery of fruits and vegetables donated to charitable associations. Around 500 kg of fruits and vegetables are expected to be distributed to the institutions.
"The engagement and participation of the community were astounding. This shows how open everyone is and how promptly they respond when there is a call for social causes, especially when environmental practices are involved. We're talking about approximately 214 kg of recyclable materials collected daily, an exceptional result that makes us proud," said Uilson Paiva, manager of Social Responsibility and Community Relations at Klabin.
Mayor Marcio Matos, of Telêmaco Borba, underscores the importance of partnerships and joint efforts to achieve the goal of the initiative. "I have no doubt that the collection campaign was a success because of the partnership between various institutions. When we all work together for the common good, gains are maximized, and the results become even more powerful."
The Social Technology consultant at Ambipar Environment, Letícia Castro, pointed out the reach of the proposal. "Encouraging people to properly dispose of recyclable materials, with a social intention, exchanging donations for food for charitable associations, was the differential that added even more value to the awareness raising work."
The initiative
Approximately 10 labeled waste bins were distributed across the Mieceslau Malinowski Events Center, during the Expo Telêmaco 2024, to receive materials made of metal, paper, cardboard, glass, and plastic. The materials collected were sent to the Cooperative of Environmental Agents ReciclaTB, which is part of Klabin's Solid Waste Program, where they will be processed for delivery to Feira do Bem, to be exchanged for fruits and vegetables for donation to charitable associations.
Klabin also had a booth at Expo Telêmaco 2024, presenting information about its operation in Paraná and its socio-environmental programs carried out in municipalities across the region.
Programs involved
Developed in partnership with the Consórcio Caminhos do Tibagi and Ambipar Environment, the Klabin's Solid Waste Program was designed to support cooperatives and associations in municipalities across Paraná in adapting to the requirements of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS). It aimed to involve local government sectors and recycling agents by disseminating knowledge, training, and formalizing waste management work.
The Feira do Bem is a program of the Municipal Government of Telêmaco Borba that encourages the proper disposal of recyclable waste, exchanging this type of waste for food produced, preferably, by local farmers. For every three kilograms donated, residents receive one kilogram of fruits and vegetables.
