Klabin sponsors youth inclusion programs through sports in Paraná
Through the Sports Incentive Law, the Company invests around R$700,000 in programs across 17 cities in the state of Paraná
Paraná, February 28, 2024 – Aligning with its Sustainability Policy, Klabin invested R$689,169.00 in 2023 in projects aimed at fostering sporting activities in the communities where it operates in Paraná. In December, through the Federal Sports Incentive Law, the Company sponsored three projects in the state of Paraná dedicated to using sports to enhance citizenship and educational development of children and adolescents across 17 municipalities.
In Telêmaco Borba, the Telêmaco Borba Sports Association for All (ADTB) encourages sports as a tool for social inclusion and transformation. Futsal training is offered to children and adolescents aged 6 to 18. Not only did the futsal team benefit from the social initiatives, but it also attained remarkable sporting achievements. In 2023, the team secured second place in Paraná's Gold series Women's Futsal Championship, claimed the top spot in the Paraná Open Games (JAPs) for the sixth time, and became a three-time winner in the Spring Games.
Another sponsored project, Superação, spearheaded by the State Field School Teófila Nassar Jangada, in the rural district of José Lacerda, in Reserva (PR), supports 55 students from the 6th grade of elementary school to the final year of high school. Beneficiaries receive training materials, such as new pairs of sneakers for the 27 athletes who classified in the School Games, the resources for the payment of an allowance for the top 10 performing athletes. Thanks to the incentive over the course of two years, athletes participating in the project won a total of 123 medals in 2023.
Volleyball - To encourage volleyball training, Klabin collaborates with Compartilhar Institute's Volleyball Network project, which engages 1,800 children and adolescents aged between 9 and 15 across 17 sports initiation centers throughout the state, primarily situated in public schools. The project, with 26 years of history within the state and supported by Klabin for 8 years, receives direct funding through the Sports Incentive Law. Around 43,000 individuals connected to educational institutes have benefited from the project, and around 3,000 physical education teachers and professionals have been trained using the Compartilhar Institute methodology. In 2021, the former student of Curitiba center, Roberta Ratzke, won a silver medal in Tokyo Olympics.
