Klabin’s work once again recognized by important sustainability indexes

Company remains in the global portfolio of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the preliminary portfolio of B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index, standing out among publicly-held companies in Brazil and around the world

São Paulo, December 11, 2023 - Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, has once again been recognized for its operations guided by sustainable development. The Company has been included, for the fourth consecutive year, in the global portfolio of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The DJSI is one of the main references of good sustainability practices in the world for companies listed on stock exchanges. In Brazil, Klabin is a component of the preliminary 2023/2024 portfolio of B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index and, for 11 consecutive years, has been among the highest rated Brazilian publicly-held companies in corporate sustainability, economic efficiency, environmental balance, social justice and corporate governance aspects.

According to Francisco Razzolini, director of Industrial Technology, Innovation, Sustainability and Projects at Klabin, the Company’s continuous presence in both indexes underscores its efficient growth strategy, which focuses on respect for the environment, increasingly efficient and productive processes, healthy relations with surrounding communities and fair treatment of its employees and suppliers. “Our commitment to sustainable development permeates all of our business fronts. Being included and retaining its position in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index is a remarkable achievement for us and attests to our efforts to implement the best environmental, social and governance practices in the sectors where we operate. Our consistent improvement in the diverse aspects being assessed reflects the daily dedication of our thousands of employees,” he added.

Various actions rolled out during the year positively affected the Company’s rating, including the definition of a robust Climate Transition Plan, which considers, among other factors, the submission of a more ambitious target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in connection with the Science Based Targets initiative, and a broader scope 3 assessment that considers a mitigation action plan for the supplier chain. Another notable factor was the maintenance of the Long-Term Incentive program for all employees. Launched in 2021, it gives all employees the right to convert a portion of their short-term variable compensation, which is based on the achievement of annual targets linked to the Klabin 2030 Agenda, to Klabin’s units.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index uses top-level assessment criteria to measure aspects such as corporate governance, risk management and code of ethics, as well as initiatives to preserve the planet, safeguard human rights and promote social development.
Created in 2005, the ISE is a pioneering initiative in Latin America that strives to create an investment environment compatible with the calls for sustainable development of contemporary society and to encourage corporations to adopt ethical responsibility.
