During the year, 55 students aged 11 to 17, sponsored by the project in Reserva (PR) won 123 medals

Paraná, December 7, 2023 – The athletics team from Colégio Estadual do Campo Teófila Nassar Jangada, in the rural region of José Lacerda, district of Reserva (PR), is closing the year on a high note. Sponsored by Klabin for the last two years, athletes from the Superação project won 123 medals at the School Games during 2023 -  22 more than in the previous year, showing the progress made by the initiative, aimed at the education and social inclusion of children and youth in the region. The results are even more surprising if compared to 2021, when the project did not yet have the sponsorship, when the athletes won 60 medals. 

Superação, which last year had 43 beneficiaries, also has grown and now benefits 55 students – from the 6th grade of elementary school to the final year of high school. During the year, more significant improvements were noticed beyond the podiums, such as the performance of students in class, as well as in their behavior, discipline and technique. “We know the tremendous potential of sports to drive social transformation of communities, especially among children and adolescents, and being able to support the Superação project, which has achieved significant results – especially in education -  is a reason to celebrate a lot”, said Uilson Paiva, Social Responsibility and Community Relations manager at Klabin.

In addition to improvements in training materials, such as new pairs of sneakers for the 27 athletes who classified in the School Games, the resources donated by Klabin include the payment of an allowance for the top 10 performing athletes. 

Nicolas Martins dos Santos (senior year of high school) has been training since the 6th grade of elementary school and travels 20 kilometers every day on a dirt road to study and train with the Superação team. Committed to sport, he has impressed everyone with his results. This year, he was the Paraná state champion in high jump in the under-18 category in Cascavel, and ranked first in the same event at the School Games held in Maringá. According to him, the project gained traction two years ago and has been a reference for youth in the region. “Training with more resources means having equal opportunities in a championship. Klabin’s sponsorship has been extremely important for us athletes. It has helped us in our training and has enabled us to improve each year”, said Nicolas.

The Company’s initiative underscores its commitment to the social development of communities where it operates, in a responsible manner, as established in the Klabin Sustainable Development Goals (KODS). 

“More than the increase in the number of medals won, we are celebrating the broader prospects for youth in the region, who are literally discovering new horizons – traveling all over the state and, some throughout Brazil – thanks to sports”, said Mauro Santos, physical education teacher and athletics coach at the Superação Project.
