Program included discussions and lectures on sustainability and environmental education

Santa Catarina, October 30, 2023 – Dedicated to contributing systematically to the education
of citizens who are more critical and careful with the environment, on October 19 and 20,
Klabin held the 36 th edition of the Caiubi Environmental Education Program in Correia Pinto,
Santa Catarina. The initiative, the result of a partnership between the Company, regional
department of education of Santa Catarina and the municipal secretary of Bocaina do Sul, aims
to raise awareness and train teachers and academic professionals to become multipliers of
ecological and environmental awareness in their communities.

The program was targeted at teachers from Bocaina do Sul, Lages, Bom Retiro, Capão Alto,
Correia Pinto and Otacílio Costa, in which nearly 60 teachers participated. The agenda included
lectures and interactive dynamics on sustainability, responsibility and environmental
awareness. Also, Klabin professionals mediated debates and chats, and participants visited the
Company’s unit in the region. Correia Pinto is the official headquarters of the project in Santa
Catarina as it houses the Caiubi auditorium, a space created specifically to hold such meets,
which also include a visit to the Araucária trail, a Klabin conservation area.

For Ana Maria Bianchini, teacher and representative of the Lages Regional Educational
Department, the program gives the opportunity to combine learning and practice. “These are
lesson that teachers can take to their students and transform environmental education into
action. Once the participants have direct contact with the speakers, the resources provided by
Klabin become more effective in the teaching process. We can take to the classroom topics like
sustainability, planting of native trees, recognition of wild animals and the pride in knowing
better the forests in the region”, she said.

Present in Santa Catarina since 2007, the Caiubi Environmental Education Program remains
committed to its purpose of training teachers from public and private schools on
environmental education, and encouraging them to disseminate knowledge throughout the
community. In Santa Catarina alone, the program has already trained more than 1,700
teachers from 679 schools and over 230,000 students.

The topics addressed in the program are linked to Klabin’s Sustainability Policy and Klabin’s
Sustainable Development Goals (KODS), connected to the UN 2030 Agenda.
