Klabin participates in Expolages 2023, the largest multi-sector fair in Serra de Santa Catarina region
Company set up a showroom and participated in the cycle of lectures
Lages, October 9, 2023 –Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, participated for the third time in Expolages, the largest multi-sector fair in the Serra Catarinense region. Focused on agribusiness, the event brought for the first time a cycle of lectures, including one on “Sustainability in business”, in which Klabin participated.
At the showroom, Klabin unveiled its forest initiatives and sustainability projects. The showroom, designed by the company for Expolages visitors, showcased products derived from its planted forests, such as corrugated board packaging and items made from pulp, such as toilet paper and sanitary napkins, as well as industrial bags produced at the Lages Unit, the world’s largest industrial bag plant. The products are used in various sectors, such as construction, food, chemicals and agribusiness, among others. Klabin, which has been present in Santa Catarina for over 60 years, has a forest area in the state that spans several municipalities.
Sandro Fabiano Ávila, Forestry Director at Klabin, explains that the company’s participation in the event is aimed at strengthening its bond with the local community. “The Company prioritizes the development of communities where it operates, and implements social and environmental projects in the regions. Participating at Expolages, showing what we do, showcasing our solutions and operational initiatives as well as our sustainability initiatives to a highly qualified public is an opportunity for us to further reach out to society”, said Ávila.
Visitors this year also attended diverse lectures on sustainability, business, cattle raising and agriculture. On October 6, at Arena Multi, Mireli Pitz Floriani, sustainability consultant at Klabin, talked about “Sustainability in business.”
“It was an excellent opportunity to show that we can align industrial and forest development with sustainability. Klabin’s forest areas in Santa Catarina include more than 5,000 kilometers of rivers and over 9,000 watersheds protected by the company, which ensure water supply in the region. The company’s preserved native forests in the state represent 49% of the total forest area of Santa Catarina, which is why it was important to show the public that we adopt the best social, environmental and economic practices in our production, as well as across our production chain and the communities where we operate”, she said.
Expolages was held from October 5 to 8 at the Parque de Exposições Conta Dinheiro in Lages, Santa Catarina, during which 42 companies and entrepreneurs showcased the most modern products and services available in the market. The event was created in the 1920s with the goal of exhibiting animals of European breeds and, in 1939, was included in the calendar of the Lages Rural Association. Thanks to its resounding success, the fair diversified into a multi-sector event in 1970, bringing together diverse sectors and exhibitors, and creating new business opportunities for them.
