Paraná, September 4, 2023 – In partnership with the Municipal Education Department of Jaguariaíva, Klabin continues to advance on its Bacia Escola Project, which carries out environmental awareness initiatives among elementary school students and academic research in the field of forest hydrology in undergraduate programs. During the first half of this year, 40 teachers and around 500 students of municipal schools benefited from the initiative.

The project presents, in simple language, technical data about the Três Bocas River watershed, which supplies water to a part of the local population. A structure was erected specially for this initiative, with a lookout point where students and teachers can conduct theoretical and practical activities on water resources and explore local flora and fauna.

In the first half of the year, 13 schools, including those in the rural area, were covered by the initiative. “Since the watershed is located in an area where mosaic forest stewardship is practiced, that is, native and planted trees are interspersed, and is close to the city, it is the ideal place to implement the Bacia Escola Project,” said Uilson Paiva, Social Responsibility and Community Relations manager at Klabin. “It enables students to become multipliers of knowledge in their communities,” he added.

Students aged 9 and 10 learn about caring for and preserving the environment, especially water. The entire supply process is presented - from collection to treatment and distribution. The Municipal Autonomous Water and Sewage Service (SAMAE) of Jaguariaíva, the concessionaire responsible for water supply in the municipality, is a partner in the project.

University students too can participate in the project, which aims to foster academic research in the field of forest hydrology and study the effects of planted forest stewardship on water. The site was chosen for its unique characteristics and will serve as an open-air laboratory.
