Klabin ends 2022 making history by registering EBITDA growth for the 13th straight year

Adjusted EBITDA reached a record R$7.784 billion in the year, up 13% from 2021, excluding non-recurring effects. In the fourth quarter of 2022, adjusted EBITDA was R$1.905 billion


Net revenue amounted to R$5.083 billion in the last three months of 2022, increasing 11% from the fourth quarter of 2021, fueled by growth across all business lines


A benchmark in sustainable development, the Company obtained important recognitions during the period: it was once again included in CDP’s select Triple A-List and in the global portfolio of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index
 

São Paulo, February 8, 2023 – Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of paper for packaging and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, Klabin in 2022 registered its 13th consecutive year of growth in Adjusted EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization), which was a record R$7.784 billion, excluding non-recurring effects, up 13% from the previous year. In the fourth quarter of 2022, adjusted EBITDA was R$1.905 billion.


Sales volume in 2022, excluding wood, increased 1% in relation to 2021, mainly driven by Eukaliner® production at MP27, the first paper machine of the Puma II Project. In the fourth quarter of 2022, sales volume, excluding wood, totaled 928,000 tons. Net revenue in 2022 was R$20.0 billion, 22% higher than in 2021. In the fourth quarter of 2022, net revenue amounted to R$5.083 billion, up 11% year on year. This performance underlines the success of Klabin’s integrated, diversified and flexible business model.


In 2022, Klabin’s ROIC (Return on Invested Capital) stood at 19.2%. The consistent ROIC of around 20% over several quarters shows the accurate capital allocation made by the Company, which combines growth and solid value creation for shareholders.


Investments


Following its growth path, the Company invested R$5.8 billion in 2022, which include R$1.6 billion in the last quarter alone. The amounts consider several initiatives in progress, such as construction of the port terminal at the Port of Paranaguá in Paraná, which started operations in December 2022; the Horizonte Project to expand the corrugated board packaging unit in Horizonte, Ceará; the Figueira Project to build a state-of-the-art corrugated board packaging unit in Piracicaba, São Paulo; and ongoing works at the Puma II Project, which are on schedule, with 82% of the project completed by the end of January. The Project’s second machine, MP28, scheduled to go operational in the second quarter of this year, will produce paperboard, including white virgin fiber paperboard, a segment that is constantly growing around the world.


Leadership in sustainability      


As one of Klabin’s main strategic business drivers, sustainability of the company’s operations was again recognized by important global institutions. For the third straight year, the Company was included in the global portfolio of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, underscoring its position at the global vanguard of sustainability, and remained the only company in Latin America to be included in CDP’s select Triple A-List of 12 global companies that were rated “A” for their climate change, water and forest programs. The Company is also in B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE), remaining one of Brazil’s most sustainable companies for 10 years.


Klabin was also once again featured in The Sustainability Yearbook, a global sustainability index compiled by S&P Global. It is among the top rated companies, and the only company in Brazil and Latin America to be in the Top 1% S&P Global ESG Score.
