With support from Klabin, athletes from Reserva (PR) won a record number of medals in 2022

Athletics team from the Superação project in Colégio Teófila won 101 medals, making 2022 a historical year

Paraná, February 2, 2023 – Supported by Klabin, an athletics project in a rural area of Reserva in Paraná is revealing new talent and won a record number of medals in 2022: the Superação project in Colégio Teófila, a school in the José Lacerda district. In 2022, the athletics team won 101 medals, 41% more than in 2019, when it won 60 medals. The highlight was the historical win by athlete João Emanoel Domingues in the 5 x 80m relay race at the Brazilian School Games (JEB), who won a golden medal and became the first athlete from the Telêmaco Borba Regional Center to win the title of Brazilian school champion.

“The project encourages the practice of sport as a path to inclusion, social ascension and improvement in learning, as well as against the social violence that affects youth in rural areas, and Klabin is very proud to support these youth,” said Uilson Paiva, Social Responsibility and Community Relations manager at Klabin.

According to Mauro Jeferson Jesen dos Santos, who coaches the athletics team, Klabin’s support improved the assistance provided to athletes, such as meals during competitions, new uniforms, dozens of food staples for their families and an allowance for 10 athletes who stood out in competitions.

The journey of the Colégio Teófila athletics team passed through four states of Brazil.  The 43 young athletes (21 girls and 22 boys aged 11 to 16) participated in 10 important competitions, winning 101 medals (67 regional, 18 macro-regional, 14 state and two national competitions).
