Klabin donates 5,000 seedlings of native trees to the municipality of São Joaquim, Santa Catarina

                                The initiative marked the event to celebrate the Arbor Day

 

Santa Catarina, September 21, 2022 – As a forestry company, Klabin is historically committed to the preservation of native forests, as well as to the best practices for cultivating planted forests for its operation. To contribute to the forestation of the municipality of São Joaquim, in Santa Catarina state, last September 20, the Company joined the local Environment and Agriculture Department to distribute 5,000 seedlings of native trees to be planted in the location. The initiative, which took part of the Arbor Day celebration, consisted in delivering Bracatinga, Red Cedar, Golden Trumpet Tree, Strawberry Guava, Guabiyu, Guabiroba and Uvaia seedlings to the population.  


The tree seedlings donated were cultivated by Klabin’s Matas Legais program, which has the Association for the Preservation of Environment and Life (Apremavi) as its partner since 2005, in Santa Catarina. The initiative seeks to develop actions to recover the native forest, including donations of seedlings, to support the correct planning of rural properties, promoting environmental education and environmental conservation and making properties compliant with the legislation. During 2022, the project provided more than 50,000 seedlings of native trees to the municipalities where the company operates in Santa Catarina. 


“Initiatives like this one, conducted by Klabin, play a quite important role in fostering sustainability, contributing to the forestation of the regions and, consequently, bringing benefits to the municipality, such as cooler local temperatures, improved humidity and better air quality, which will provide the population with climate comfort. We believe that joint efforts bring better results for the initiatives, and the partnership with the local Environment and Agriculture Department is a key driver to encourage sustainability in the municipality of São Joaquim”, said Samantha Nazaré de Paiva, Klabin’s Environmental Responsibility Coordinator.
