Paraná, August 22, 2022 - Klabin's pioneering project in partnership with the State Government of Paraná and the Ortigueira Municipal Government, the only technical school offering forest machine operations and mechanics courses in Latin America, held the graduation ceremony for 50 students of the Forest Machine Operations and Heavy Machinery Maintenance courses on August 6. Of the graduates, 46 underwent the Internship Program at Klabin and 7 of them were hired by the company even before graduating, which underlines the company's commitment to promoting education and job opportunities in the regions where it operates. 

“This graduation will strongly increase employment chances for these professionals at Klabin and several other companies in Brazil’s pulp and paper sector,” says Uilson Paiva, Community Relations manager at Klabin.

Honored as the patron of the batches, José Totti, Forestry Director at Klabin, highlighted the importance of qualified trained labor in Ortigueira, which benefits students from all the towns in the region since the school offers internships. As proof of this, at the end of his keynote address during the event, he announced that Klabin has 80 vacancies for forest machine operators and 20 vacancies for heavy machinery mechanics.  “It is very important for Klabin to witness another batch graduating from the State Forestry and Agriculture Vocational Training Center of Ortigueira, a very important project for the Company, which aims to increasingly align innovation with sustainable development, adds Totti.

The State Forestry and Agriculture Vocational Training Center of Ortigueira was inaugurated in 2020 to become a reference in training forestry operators and mechanics. Its first batch of students graduated in December last year.  Model schools were visited in Sweden and Finland, countries with a long history of such technical training.  The school also offers the Agribusiness program. 

“The Technical School combines theoretical knowledge with practice, which gives students the chance to be employed upon graduation.  We thank Klabin and the State Government of Paraná for this successful partnership,” says Sueli Aparecida Martins, head of the Telêmaco Borba Education Center.

About the State Forestry and Agriculture Vocational Training Center of Ortigueira
 

The State Forestry and Agriculture Vocational Training Center of Ortigueira has a comprehensive infrastructure consisting of classrooms, fully-equipped laboratories, restrooms, industrial kitchen, cafeteria, multi-sport court and leisure area. The school has capacity for up to 800 students. The school also has an exclusive boarding school for students enrolled in full-time programs.  The school receives federal and state government funds for its physical, human and pedagogical upkeep. It offers the following full-time and part-time (evening) courses:

Agribusiness Technician (full-time);

Forestry Machine Operations Technician (full-time);

Forestry Machine Operations Technician (post-high school, full-time);

Forestry Machine Operations Technician (post-high school, evening);

Heavy Machine Maintenance Technician (full-time);

Heavy Machine Maintenance Technician (post-high school, evening).
