Klabin Caiubi, the environmental education program, resumes onsite activities in Paraná
The 21st edition of the initiative in the state addresses the theme “There’s no water without forests” and is supported by the Pingo D'Água program
Paraná, August 03, 2022 - In July, Klabin resumed the onsite activities of its Klabin Caiubi Program, implemented in partnership with the local government to train teachers across the municipal school network on environmental conservation issues. The five-day program included theoretical and practical training on the topic “There’s no water without forests.” The training sessions were held by Gustavo Goés, environmental manager at the Rio Tibagi Consortium (COPATI), with support from the Pingo D'Água environmental education program.
All precautions related to COVID-19 (mandatory use of masks and hand sanitizer) were followed during the program, which was attended by 134 teachers from the public school network, maximizing the program’s positive impact on nearly 3,000 students across eight towns in the state: Telemaco Borba, Ortigueira, Tamarana, Imbaú, Reserva, Ventania, Sapopema and Curiúva. The initiative raised awareness and prepared the teachers to become multipliers of ecological awareness and environmental knowledge in their communities.
The program also included an Ecological Trail in the Klabin Ecological Park, which spans over 1,000 meters and provides visitors with a view of native flora and fauna such as the araucaria, angico and peroba-rosa trees, and enables them to hear the songs of purple-breasted parrots and guans.
“We had adapted the Klabin Caiubi Program to the remote format which, fortunately, enabled us to carry out its activities during the last two years, while respecting the safety protocols on account of the pandemic. We are very excited to resume onsite activities, which ensure greater integration between the participants and the environment, further boosting the knowledge imparted through training”, says Henrique Luvison, Environmental Responsibility Manager at Klabin.
"Participating in an environmental education project is very important for us teachers, as we have the opportunity to acquire updated knowledge on this topic that is important for preserving the planet so that we can pass on to our students. The Klabin Caiubi program, launched by a company that values sustainable development in partnership with our municipal government, is building a legacy of care for the environment among families, schools and the entire community. Congratulations to all those involved,” says Luana Rosa Proença, teacher at the Deputado Fabiano Braga Cortes Municipal School in Telêmaco Borba.
Held since 2001 in Paraná, the Klabin Caiubi Environmental Education Program is in its 21st edition. It was expanded to Santa Catarina in 2008, reaching Feira de Santana, Bahia, in 2019 and São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, in 2021. In 2022, Caiubi expanded to Jundiaí and Angatuba in the state of São Paulo. In over two decades, the program has trained more than 6,000 teachers, benefiting over 480,000 students from around 1,640 schools.
