Klabin implements Klabin Caiubi Program in public schools of Jundiaí
In partnership with municipal education department, the program’s first edition focusing environmental education was held in June and benefitted 350 students
São Paulo, July 25, 2022 – Engaged in fostering the social and environmental development of its local communities, Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, has rolled out its Caiubi Program to the public school system of Jundiaí, São Paulo. The initiative, which offers theoretical and practical training on environmental education to teachers and educators, is being carried out in partnership with the municipality’s education department and involved 13 professionals in its first edition, on June 15 to 24.
The partnership between Klabin and the education department, which began in 2020, was resumed in January 2022 to better identify the best ways to implement the initiative in the region. The schools selected for the initiative were Profa. Glória da Silva Rocha Genovese and Prof. Lázaro Miranda Duarte, which received theoretical and practical training, one online and the other in-person, on the theme “Without forests there is no water.”
The theme was chosen based on the actual situation of the region, which is currently experiencing water stress during a season when droughts often result in water scarcity. The idea is for teachers to apply the knowledge they learn in the program to their classes in the second semester of the year, effectively disseminating the message of responsible water use and the importance of water for forest conservation. The expectation is for 350 students to be benefited by the action.
Júlio Nogueira, Sustainability and Environmental manager at Klabin, explains that the Klabin Caiubi Program consolidates the Company’s efforts to foster local development and environmental education in the communities where it operates, in line with the commitments undertaken through the Klabin Sustainable Development Goals (KODS). “We believe that education can shape more conscientious citizens, and the Klabin Caiubi Program is one of our initiatives in this effort. We’re extremely pleased to be expanding this project to Jundiaí and reinforce again how much education and awareness can transform people’s lives,” he added.
Launched in 2001, in Paraná state, the Klabin Caiubi Program and its subsequent editions focus on diagnosing local needs to ensure that the focus addresses the needs of the communities served. Today, the project impacts over 480,000 students, who benefit from training programs administered by over 6,000 educators in 1,641 schools in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul.
