Company partnered with municipal government to launch environmental awareness actions at Praça da Família

Paraná, June 7, 2022 – Committed to the social and environmental issues in the communities where it operates, Klabin, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Telêmaco Borba celebrated World Environment Day with an event that combined learning and leisure at Praça da Família on June 5. The initiative included two knowledge trails, one on each side of the park, which described the importance of the Company’s actions to conserve native forests and water, as well as a space for kids to create drawings and paintings inspired by the environment and face painting related to nature.

During the trails, participants learned about the steps taken by the company to care for the environment. They also learned how Klabin’s native and planted forests remove more carbon from the atmosphere than emitted by its industrial processes, how conserving native forests helps preserve flora and fauna and what the Company has done to reduce the use of water at the units in Paraná.

The event featured presentations by elementary school students about the importance of conscientious use of water. The schools Sonho Mágico, CEI Atitude, Roda do Tempo, Escola Adventista and Colégio Positivo, as well as the Monte Alegre Scouts Group, participated in the initiative.

According to Julio Nogueira, Manager - Corporate Sustainability and Environment at Klabin, initiatives like this are extremely important to mobilize the community around a common goal. “This action underlines one of the Company’s core values. More important than promoting sustainability through internal actions is providing future generations with environmental education and raising their awareness on this issue,” he says.

The mayor of Telêmaco Borba, Dr. Márcio Matos, praised Klabin’s initiative and highlighted its importance. "Klabin’s care for the environment is commendable. It always seeks to preserve nature and raise awareness among people, especially among the kids. We share this concern and care because the actions of today will reflect in the future, creating a better and more sustainable world for future generations".

Around 300 people participated in the event, which was aimed at fostering citizenship action, grassroots development, environmental education and culture – important pillars for the Company, which aligns these objectives with the commitments undertaken in Klabin’s Sustainable Development Goals (KODS) established within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
