Klabin expands operation in Horizonte, Ceará, and creates more jobs in the region
Company received municipal and state government authorities in event that underscores the Unit's importance for the company's strategy and its commitment to the social and economic development of the region
Horizonte, March 18, 2022 - Klabin, Brazil’s biggest producer and exporter of packaging paper and leader in the paperboard, corrugated packaging and industrial bags segments, celebrated today (March 18) the operation and its recently announced plan for expansion of the Horizonte Unit in Ceará. The mill, which will produce corrugated packaging, will receive investments of R$ 188 million to expand its installed capacity from 20 thousand tons to 100 thousand tons a year and offer differentiated solutions to clients in the region.
Klabin's operation in Horizonte began in 2020 and is part of the company's growth strategy in the packaging segment to serve the growing fruit and industrial market in Brazil’s Northeastern region. Set up in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza, the Unit received an initial investment of R$ 50 million from the company at the time.
The new planned investment includes the acquisition of a corrugator and a printer, and the transfer of two printers from the Goiana Unit in Pernambuco. All the machines will start operating in the first quarter of 2023. The next generation machines guarantee high productivity and very high quality printing. “Our intention is to keep pace with growing demand in the Northeastern region, especially in the fruits and vegetables, processed foods, textiles and footwear sectors,” explained Douglas Dalmasi, executive officer of the Packaging Business at Klabin.
Expansion of the Unit also underlines the commitment to the social and economic development of Horizonte. Through this operational expansion, the company estimates that about 250 jobs will be created, generating a positive impact on the local community.
The event was attended by Cristiano Teixeira, CEO of Klabin, Douglas Dalmasi, executive officer of the Packaging Business, Gabriella Michelucci, executive officer of the Corrugated Boards segment, and Wolff Klabin, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company. The mayor of Horizonte, Nezinho Farias, as well as state and municipal secretaries and city councilors, were also present.
Northeastern Operation
The Northeastern operation is strategic for Klabin as it serves the regional market and also promotes exports through local ports. Currently, apart from the Horizonte Unit, the Company has a mill in Goiana, Pernambuco, which produces corrugated board packaging, industrial bags and recycled paper, and another in Feira de Santana, Bahia, which produces corrugated board packaging.
