Klabin and Vedacit join forces to develop packaging with less plastic
The technology incorporated into the product reduces CO2 emissions, waste generation and energy consumption
São Paulo, January 27, 2022 — Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of paper for packaging and paper packaging, and Vedacit, the leader in the waterproofing market, have announced a new packaging option for Vedacit, the company’s waterproofing additive for concrete and mortar. The new packaging is made from corrugated board, a renewable and biodegradable raw material that comes from Klabin’s planted and certified forests. The new packaging significantly reduces the amount of plastic used and adds important sustainability characteristics to the product, such as reductions in CO2 emissions, waste generation and energy consumption in production processes.
The packaging’s performance over its entire life cycle, from production and logistics to its final use on construction sites, is further optimized by the focus on offering the best experience for consumers. Besides reducing the use of non-renewable raw materials in its production, the rectangular format of the Vedacit box packaging makes transportation easier and reduces the so-called “dead space” by a ratio of 3 to 1, resulting in more product per pallet. The use of super-strong corrugated board also facilitates stacking on retail shelves.
Available in an 18-liter presentation, the new packaging also brings benefits for consumers, such as being lighter than the original packaging; handles to facilitate transportation; and a dosing spout that not only controls the amount dispersed, but also is easier to open. Vedacit’s corrugated board box packaging is available across São Paulo state.
Douglas Dalmasi, Packaging Director at Klabin, believes that customer experience and sustainability continue to gain space in the market. “We are closely accompanying the growing calls from customers for sustainable packaging solutions and are working to meet that need with products that offer greater convenience and less waste for consumers and, above all, respect for the environment. We are very satisfied with the results we achieved for Vedacit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Luis Fernando Guggenberger, Vedacit’s Marketing, Innovation and Sustainability executive, said, “we’ve undertaken a public commitment to sustainability and this new eco-friendly packaging is part of that journey. The goal is to reach, by 2025, 25% of our packaging made using green or biodegradable technologies.”
