Klabin receives Paraná Climate Seal in recognition of its actions to combat climate change
The seal recognizes companies and institutions that voluntarily adopt and disclose their good sustainability practices
Paraná, November 20, 2023 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, received from the Sustainable Development Department of Paraná (Sedest), the Paraná Climate Seal which recognizes companies and institutions that voluntarily measure, disclose and adopt measures to reduce carbon footprint and to combat climate change. This is the seventh straight year that the Company receives the seal in category A - the highest.
The Monte Alegre, Puma, Rio Negro and Paranaguá units received Seal A for their environmental, social and governance initiatives, since the seal also takes into consideration actions linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the ESG culture of companies, the Edinburgh Declaration and the Race to Zero and Race to Resilience Campaigns. According to the State Government of Paraná, these criteria are designed to promote an economy with low emissions and encourage proposals that help mitigate the effects of climate change.
“It’s an honor for Klabin to receive such an important recognition from Paraná, a state with which we’ve had a long-standing partnership. This is one way of valuing the environmental responsibility activities carried out by Klabin over our 124-year history. We have made progress in increasingly sustainable applications for products, seeking to meet the demands of conscious consumption and of a renewable future through biodegradable barriers”, said Henrique Luvison, Environmental Responsibility Manager.
Klabin’s ESG strategy has historically been based on this concern for environmental, social and corporate governance aspects, especially in its regional operations, where it interacts very closely with the surrounding communities.
The Paraná Climate Seal awards ceremony was held on November 9 at the Paraná State Industries Federation (FIEP). This year, the seal was given to 132 organizations, totaling 284 business units in 78 towns across Paraná.
