Klabin included in Dow Jones Sustainability Index

São Paulo, November 18, 2020 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, announces that it was included in Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in two indices, namely the DJSI World and DJSI Emerging Markets, and announces the launch of more than 20 targets for its sustainable development and for the prosperity of society and the planet. The DJSI recognizes the world’s leading companies in economic performance, governance practices and social and environmental performance. Klabin becomes the only Brazilian manufacturer to be included in the global family of benchmarks, which comes on top of the other recognitions it has garnered, the stock indexes in which it is a component and the commitments that it has undertaken, such as the Science Based Targets, effectively positioning it as one of the world’s most sustainable companies.

“Being included in the DJSI family represents an important mark in Klabin’s sustainable development and comes at an important moment for endorsing the launch of the Klabin Sustainable Development Goals (KODS), which are a set of short, medium and long-term commitments that organize and guide the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets prioritized by Klabin and aligned with its strategic growth plan. The KODS will be launched next month during Klabin Investor Day,” explained Francisco Razzolini, Chief Technology, Innovation, Sustainability and Projects Officer at Klabin. Inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda, the KODS address the ESG needs of internal scopes related to Klabin’s operations and growth and also focus on the global urgencies of society and the planet, as well as of investors, for creating a public agenda of targets that contribute to a more sustainable 2030.

“Becoming a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is a historic achievement for Klabin of which we are extremely proud. The achievement reinforces our conviction that we have been making the right choices since our founding 120 years ago, guided by our firm commitment to the environment, caring for people and creating value for society,” said Marcos Ivo, Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer.

Klabin is the only Brazilian pulp and paper producer to be included in the DJSI world, which increases the visibility of the cultivated forests sector in the country. Klabin figures in the global benchmark along with six Brazilian companies from three industries: energy, banking and apparel. The DJSI World recognizes companies with best-in-class performance globally in long-term economic, environmental and social criteria. From the list of 3,500 companies invited by S&P Global BMI, only 10% become components of the portfolio. Meanwhile, the DJSI Emerging Markets index comprises sustainability leaders in emerging markets and aims to represent 10% of the largest companies in 20 emerging markets based on the same criteria.
