Klabin obtains Sesi ODS 2020 Seal

Paraná, December 17, 2020 — For the fourth straight year, Klabin obtained the Sesi ODS Seal, 2020 edition. This time, the seal was granted for the company’s initiatives in the state of Paraná to combat the spread of Covid-19 and, at the same time, promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This year, the seal focused on two categories of good practices: prevention of coronavirus and post-pandemic actions, both related to the SDGs in Paraná; 113 institutions including industries, companies, government agencies, civil society organizations and educational institutions, received the seal.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Klabin has expanded its health and social welfare initiatives, mobilizing different resources and experiences to fulfill its role as a corporate citizen and help society fight the new coronavirus. Klabin’s actions caused tremendous social impacts in Paraná, where the company has allocated R$2.5 million to combat Covid-19. The main investment went to the construction and acquisition of equipment for the Telêmaco Borba Regional Hospital in just 40 days, with 10 ICU beds and 40 infirmary beds, which has, since May, been serving the seven cities making up the 21st Health Region of Paraná. The company also donated ten respirators to the Hospital, which could double the number of ICU beds. In Curitiba, over 37,000 medicine dosing containers were donated to Pequeno Príncipe Hospital, and more than 117,000 hospital PPE items were donated to health institutions and social entities across the state.

In Paraná, Klabin is a member of the Inter-Sector Committee on Combating Covid-19 (COMCOVID) and has rolled out diverse initiatives, ranging from donations and disinfection of streets to the production of hand sanitizer made from microfibrillated cellulose at its Technology Center in Telêmaco Borba, which was distributed to health institutions in the state and the country. Klabin also implemented health and safety protocols for employees, which are still in effect, and also helped the communities. It also launched the “Each Action Counts” and “Citizen Action” campaigns, which became a movement inside and outside the company, underscoring the need for shared care and union to overcome this challenging phase.

In 2016, Klabin adhered to the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) and, based on these commitments, created its own sustainability agenda: Klabin’s Sustainable Development Goals (KODS), in line with the UN Agenda 2030, establishing short-, medium- and long-term goals that organize and guide the Environmental, Social and Governance milestones and progresses, which are a priority for the company and society.
