Correia Pinto, October 17, 2016 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter and the leading manufacturer of packaging, corrugated board and industrial bags, will organize on October 19 and 20, the 27th edition of the Caiubi Program, which this year receives around 50 participants, members of the Environmental Education Working Group of the Hydrographic Region 4 (GTEA-RH4) and teachers from state schools in the city of São Cristóvão do Sul, Santa Catarina. The event will be held at Klabin’s Environmental Education Center at the Correia Pinto Unit in Santa Catarina. Apart from lectures and activities to raise environmental awareness, this edition will feature for the first time a workshop on making handicrafts using tusa tape (composed of pulp tape) at the end of the program.

On the first day, lectures will be given on Sustainable Forest Plantations, Environmental Protectors Program and More than Animals! by Mireli Moura Pitz Floriani, biologist and sustainability analyst at Klabin, together with Ilton Agostini, biologist and officer at the Environmental Police, and Vilmar Picinatto Filho, PhD student in forest engineering at the Federal University of Paraná. The day will also feature environmental education activities and role-play Do Bicho ao Nicho by Max Farjallat Raffi, veterinarian at Picinatto e Rafii Consultoria Ambiental Ltda.

On the second day, Grupo Tramatusa from Lages will hold a workshop on making handicrafts with tusa tape, and visits will be organized to the Klabin Araucária Trail and the Correia Pinto Unit. The event includes other activities and lectures on Klabin’s Environmental Management System and Municipal Plans for the Atlantic Forest, given by Rodrigo Teixeira, sanitary and environmental engineer at Klabin, and Leandro Casanova, specialist in water resources at the Association for Preservation of the Environment and Life (Apremavi).

The Program, which started in Santa Catarina in 2007, has brought Klabin closer to communities in the 40 cities across the state where the company has forest and industrial operations. The goal of the project is to raise awareness among educators on environmental issues so that they can become multipliers of knowledge for students and the communities where they serve by creating projects on the theme and preparing course content. This way, the company’s experience with sustainable development of the region is made known to the population, which responds positively at the end of each program and shares this knowledge.
