Klabin launches app to evaluate employees’ health

São Paulo, April 20, 2020 – To ramp up the preventive measures against the coronavirus, Klabin has developed an application to speed up assistance to employees and bring them closer to the medical teams at its operations. Developed in record time by the Company’s innovation and technology team, the solution was initially designed in response to a request from the Forestry Unit in Paraná, whose teams work in remote areas, distant from urban centers.

Every day, before the start of every shift, employees have their temperature measured. If any alteration is detected, the “Klabin Health” app is accessed through a QR Code registered in the employee’s badge and a notification is sent automatically to the doctor on call, who can access the employee’s clinical records. The doctor provides medical assistance in real time, over telephone, the medical team evaluates the case and, if necessary, the employee is removed temporarily from work as a safety measure.

“We tested the app in the Forestry Unit operations and the result was quite effective. We are working to expand it to Klabin’s mills, already including new functionalities. Besides preventing the spread of the coronavirus, the app provides us with a more analytical reading, identifying critical regions and mapping scenarios that help in decision-making,” says Sérgio Piza, People and Corporate Services Director at Klabin.

The app also contains a self-evaluation questionnaire. Employees are instructed to complete it before starting their shift and, if any response indicates the risk of infection, the doctor is informed and the professional receives a notification informing that they cannot start working. The doctor is then contacted for a more detailed medical consultation.

ESSENTIAL CHAIN SUPPLY

To ensure the maintenance of its operations, Klabin significantly expanded its initiatives to control the spread of COVID-19 among its employees and the community, intensified the health and safety protocols, included dozens of contingency actions in the daily routine of its professionals and scaled down its operations to the technical limit to continue operating safely.

Over 80% of Klabin’s pulp, packaging paper and paper packaging production is earmarked for the food (fresh and processed food), hygiene (toilet paper, tissues and toothpaste, among others) and cleaning (washing powder and soap, for example) segments, which are considered essential items for the population. The Company is also Brazil’s only producer of fluff pulp, which is an essential raw material to produce disposable adult and child diapers. In Brazil alone, the company accounts for 50% of the market supply.
