Klabin reiterates support to society through fresh donations to combat the new coronavirus

Santa Catarina, December 14, 2020 – To help the Planalto Serrano region in Santa Catarina, which has been registering a critical increase in the number of cases in recent weeks, in its fight against Covid-19, Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, made an important donation on Monday to help set up new ICU beds at the Tereza Ramos Maternity Hospital in Lages.

 

Around R$1.1 million was donated to purchase equipment, including ventilators, infusion pumps, hemodialysis machine and laryngoscope kits. The equipment was delivered today in the presence of representatives from Klabin, Tereza Ramos Hospital and the Lages Municipal Government.

 

“The Tereza Ramos Maternity Hospital is very grateful and pleased to receive the equipment donated by Klabin, which will allow us to set up 10 ICU beds for Covid cases in our hospital. This initiative shows the company’s social engagement and its commitment to the region where it operates.  The new beds will make a significant difference in the healthcare provided to residents of the Serrano region in Santa Catarina,” says Fábio Lage, Managing Director of the Tereza Ramos Maternity Hospital.

 

Since the onset of the pandemic, Klabin has made several donations and rolled out initiatives to help people in the fight against Covid-19. The resources have been allocated to diverse health and social welfare initiatives, especially in the regions where the company operates. To date, the company has made donations totaling around R$13 million across the country. In Santa Catarina alone, more than R$2.6 million was donated to acquire hospital equipment, as well as thousands of hygiene, health and personal protective items and hand sanitizers, in addition to the donation of corrugated board packaging and paper bags used to transport food and hygiene kits.
