Klabin unveils “Klabin Sustainable Development Goals” (KODS) and announces targets that underscore its historical commitment to ESG initiatives

São Paulo, December 4, 2020  – Klabin announced on December 4, 2020, the Klabin 2030 Agenda of its Sustainable Development Goals – a series of short-, medium- and long-term goals that prioritize key environmental, social and governance needs of the company and the urgent global issues facing the society and the planet. Named KODS, from the Portuguese acronym of “Klabin Sustainable Development Goals”, these commitments are based on 11 priority themes divided into four pillars with 23 goals, which are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that the company became a signatory to in 2016. The announcement was made during Klabin Investor Day, the annual event for investors which, in 2020, was held entirely virtually.

“The launch of a public agenda of commitments and goals focused on the sustainable development of the company, and which are related to the operations and growth of the company, society and the planet, is an important milestone in Klabin’s history, which endorses the company’s long-term vision and its commitment to creating value for all stakeholders. KODS are the embodiment of our intensive efforts in recent years and underline our vocation for creating a more sustainable future,” said Francisco Razzolini, director of Industrial Technology, Innovation, Sustainability and Projects.

KODS cover diverse themes, such as the use of water: the company has undertaken to reduce water consumption in its industrial operations by 20% (per ton of product). Another priority issue is climate change: besides meeting the targets of reducing emissions, which will be agreed upon with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBT), the Company will ensure the net capture of 45 million tons of CO₂eq between 2020 and 2030, actively contributing to avoiding global warming. The issue of diversity too was included in the agenda, which aims to include minority groups and increase female leadership.

Recently, Klabin also announced that it has joined the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in its 2020/2021 edition, in the World Index and Emerging Markets Index categories. Notably, it is the only Brazilian company to join the world category.
