Klabin, the largest exporter and producer of paper for packaging and paper packaging, was the winner of the 21st edition of the Paper Packaging Awards sponsored by the Brazilian Packaging Association (ABRE), in the category Market – Functionality. The Water-Dispersible Sack and the sack for pet food maker Tibii won gold and bronze, respectively, which were recognized for their innovation, quality, functionality, POS appeal and sustainability.

The Water-Dispersible Sack that won the category, which was developed jointly by Klabin and cement maker Votorantim Cimentos, is made with 100% water-soluble paper, which means that it can be added along with the cement when making the concrete mix.  The packaging solution offers various benefits, which include reducing waste generation on construction sites by giving the sacks a sustainable destination, while also facilitating handling.

Meanwhile, the packaging for Tibii, which won third place, are made exclusively for the company and feature an innovative design that facilitates storage and handling, and also include an attached cup for dosing portions. As with all the other products developed by Klabin, the packaging is recyclable and made from renewable raw materials extracted from planted and certified forests.

Since 2001, the ABRE Awards highlight and recognize innovations in Brazilian packaging. This year, more than 360 packaging designs were submitted, which were evaluated by a technical panel formed by professionals with expertise in packaging and the related industries, which considered various criteria, such as innovation, functionality, technology, quality, design POS appeal, attractiveness, sustainability, competitiveness and more.
