Klabin wins award from Tetra Pak for best positive impact in biodiversity

São Paulo, December 17, 2021  - Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and paper packaging, was recognized by Tetra Pak for the “Best Positive Impact in Biodiversity.” Tetra Pak’s initiative is designed to engage its suppliers in the “Join us in protecting the planet” campaign and includes the “Climate” and “Circularity” categories. The award was given during the company's annual meeting of suppliers held in Switzerland in early December, which marked a year since the launch of the initiative.

Cristiano Teixeira, CEO of Klabin, who represented the Company at the event, pointed out that the partnership between the companies spanning almost four decades reflects their mutual commitment to having environmental preservation and conservation as a strategic and essential pillar of the business.  “We are very proud of the history we have written together with Tetra Pak, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of food packaging and which is represented in diverse global communities.  Our partnership is founded on our shared purpose in favor of sustainability, which drives us towards collaborative innovation to deliver safe, responsible and sustainable packaging to consumers,” he said.

Lars Holmquist, executive vice president of Sustainability and Communication at Tetra Pak, added: “As a signatory to the UN Global Compact and in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 on ‘Responsible consumption and production’, responsible sourcing is a strategic objective at Tetra Pak.  We work with our partners to minimize risks, as well as human, social and environmental impacts, besides promoting transparency and active communication across the value chain.  We are excited about the progress made by Klabin in making a positive impact in biodiversity and hope this award serves as an inspiration to our other suppliers.”

Before conferring the award, Tetra Pak analyzed a series of initiatives by Klabin aimed at conserving biodiversity and, consequently, positively impacting the entire production chain and delivering more sustainable solutions to society. Among the points evaluated, the company stood out for having its products certified by FSC® and for its conservation and preservation efforts in High Conservation Value Areas (AAVC), which have significant and recognized social and environmental values in relation to biodiversity, as well as endangered ecosystems.

“We are glad to receive this recognition, which I make it a point to share with each employee at Klabin, whose dedication every day helps us to continue our pursuit of a more sustainable future. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with Tetra Pak on initiatives aimed at innovation, growth and protecting the planet,” Teixeira added.
