Klabin wins Bonds & Loans Latin America & Caribbean Awards 2021
Winner of the “ESG Deal of the Year” category, the Company was recognized for its successful Sustainability Linked Bond issue in January 2021
São Paulo, December 13, 2021 - Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of paper for packaging and paper packaging, won the “ESG Deal of the Year” category at the Bonds & Loans Latin America & Caribbean Awards, organized by Bonds & Loans Awards, an awards entity created by the GFC Media Group (GFC) conglomerate, for its US$500 million Sustainability Linked Bond (SLB) issued in January 2021 and maturing in 2031.
According to the organizers, Klabin’s Sustainability Linked Bond stood out in Sustainability/ESG compared to other companies across Latin America and the Caribbean, primarily for connecting three significant environmental targets in a single bond – water consumption, waste reuse and recycling, reintroducing and/or strengthening wildlife species in the ecosystem and biodiversity.
“It’s an honor that Klabin is recognized for its sustainable initiatives. This SLB issue showed that sustainability and value creation go hand in hand, since this bond managed the lowest yield ever for a 10-year issue by Brazilian companies. We believe in sustainable development aligned with innovation, pursuing excellence in processes and creating shared value,” said Marcos Ivo, Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer of Klabin.
Commitment to the environment is so important that last year the company launched the Klabin 2030 Agenda, which defines Klabin’s Sustainable Development Goals (KODS) aligned with the 2030 United Nations Agenda. KODS are part of a set of short-, medium- and long-term commitments that organize and guide the priority Environmental, Social and Governance milestones for the Company.
The Bonds & Loans Awards were instituted in 2015 by the GFC Media Group (GFC), the preeminent conglomerate in organizing investment banking and corporate finance events across emerging and frontier markets. The award recognizes pioneering and innovative deals, divided into 13 categories.
The awards were given away at an event held in Miami in November.
