“We are at a critical juncture and it’s time for us to take concrete actions to help the planet. With science based targets,” says Klabin CEO Cristiano Teixeira in UN Global Compact meetings at COP26

Glasgow, November 11, 2021 – On Wednesday, Cristiano Teixeira, CEO of Klabin, said during two panels organized by the United Nations Global Compact featuring major leaders from Brazil and other countries that we are at a turning point in history and it is time to take concrete actions to help save the planet.

“We’re very happy to be here with other CEOs at COP26 seeing all the progress that is being achieved. It’s the right thing to do,” he said during the 9th High-Level Conference on the UN Global Compact, which featured the participation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres; Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP; and Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of UN Global Compact; among others.

Meanwhile, in the panel “Net Zero Ambition: Are Brazilian Businesses Ready for the Net-zero Transition?”, the executive reinforced that the forestry sector, through its natural coverage, can contribute to greater carbon retention. “All actions must be based on science. Klabin is honored to be one of the very first Brazilian companies to have its targets approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), and it is with these targets, as we realize them, that it will become easier to monitor our progress towards our goal,” he added, noting that “we still have a lot to do, but we’ll get there.”
