Klabin inaugurates Imbaú Central Square and delivers improvements envisaged in the city’s Solid Waste Plan
Paraná, December 8, 2016 – On the day of its 20th anniversary, the city of Imbaú received a special gift: a new city square with space for leisure, outdoor gym, skating rink, playground for kids and lighting. The square also has a covered area for exhibitions, which can be used for open-air and handicraft fairs. Located on the BR-376 highway at the corner with Francisco Siqueira street, next to the City Council, the area was earlier used as a work yard and has now become the city’s first square.
The project, which was inaugurated this Thursday morning, is part of the Social and Environmental Action Plan of Klabin’s Puma Project and was selected through a process that involved extensive community participation. Henceforth, the facilities will be managed by the Imbaú Municipal Government.
“We are very pleased to see the completion of a leisure area that meets the exact needs expressed by the people of Imbaú’,” said Uilson Paiva, Community Relations Manager at Klabin.
Solid Waste Center
Another social benefit delivered by Klabin to Imbaú is related to the recycling of solid waste produced by the city, as part of the Integrated Urban Solid Waste Management Plan. The Plan is implemented in partnership with the Caminhos do Tibagi Intercity Consortium and includes the adaptation of seven cities making up the consortium to the National Solid Waste Policy (Federal Law 12,305/2010).
The 250m² pavilion used to dispose of recycled materials received improvements to its electrical facilities and was equipped with conveyor belts, pallet jacks and press machines. In April this year, the city had already received a truck for selective waste collection, while similar trucks were delivered in the cities of Ortigueira and Tamarana. The next step is to plan initiatives that enable domestic separation and recycling, environmental education, and landfill project and licensing.
Social and Environmental Action Plan
In 2012, Klabin, driven by a strategic vision and based on a regional technical diagnosis of the cities of Ortigueira, Imbaú and Telêmaco Borba, broadly mapped the areas under the direct influence of its Puma Unit. Through an extensive participatory process involving diverse stakeholder groups from urban and rural areas, the Unit drew up the Social and Environmental Action Plan, which brings together the company’s social investments that draw on financing from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and is composed of projects in the areas of health, education, culture, leisure, environment, family farming and others.
